Please join us for an alumni breakfast event featuring a fireside chat with John Flavin, University of Chicago's Associate Vice President for Entrepreneurship and Innovation, and E.J. Reedy, Director of Strategic Initiatives at the Polsky Center. John leads the Polsky Center for Entrepreneurship and Innovation, bringing together the University's nationally recognized programs in venture creation and education, technology commercialization, and business incubation. E.J. oversees a variety of student and alumni programming including the University's growing fintech initiatives, entrepreneurial programming for students in UChicago's international locations, and programming to support entrepreneurial experiences during the summer. The Polsky Center has become the hub for the University of Chicago's cross-campus and international engagement in fintech.
This event will be a great opportunity to learn more about the growth of the Polsky Center and entrepreneurship at the University. John and E.J. will discuss their vision on the future of fintech and share insight as to how the University of Chicago is impacting the space with specialized educational, training, and mentoring opportunities throughout the year.
Associate Vice President of Entrepreneurship and Innovation , University of Chicago
John Flavin, MBA is the Associate Vice President of Entrepreneurship and Innovation at the University of Chicago. He leads the Polsky Center for Entrepreneurship and Innovation, which brings together the University's nationally recognized programs in venture creation and education, technology commercialization, and business incubation, streamlining access to venture support resources for University and community entrepreneurs and corporate partners. Prior to this role, John was the founding executive director of the Chicago Innovation Exchange, a start-up hub at the University of Chicago that is now part of the expanded Polsky Center.
An entrepreneur with more than 20 years of experience in the life sciences field focused on finance and operations, Flavin has co-founded and built several companies, raised over $220 million in private and public capital, and led 2 successful NASDAQ IPOs. John is Managing Director at Flavin Ventures, LLC, a venture creation and management firm, as well as a board member at the Illinois Science and Technology Coalition, and he sits on Governor Bruce Rauner's Illinois Innovation Council, Mayor Rahm Emanuel's ChicagoNEXT technology council and the City of Chicago's Small Business Advisory Committee.
Director, Strategic Initiatives, University of Chicago
E.J. Reedy oversees strategic initiatives at the Polsky Center, including research, global and alumni programming. He is a global thought leader in entrepreneurship, having spent the last decade working for the Ewing Marion Kauffman Foundation, the largest philanthropy devoted to promoting entrepreneurship. E.J.'s research and commentary has been featured in the New York Times, Wall Street Journal, and a host of other global outlets.
