The use of evidence and economic analysis in policymaking is on the rise, and accounting standard setting and financial regulation are no exception. Professor Christian Leuz, Joseph Sondheimer Professor of International Economics, Finance and Accounting at Chicago Booth, discusses the promise of evidence-based policymaking in financial regulation as well as the challenges and opportunities for research supporting this endeavor. He also revisits the rise of evidence-based medicine and points out that we can learn a lot from medicine.
